Bassinet to Crib Transition

WHEN SHOULD I TRANSITION MY BABY FROM THEIR NEWBORN BASSINET OR MOSES BASKET INTO A LARGER SPACE?

Well, it’s important to know first that this doesn’t necessarily mean move them out of your room. They might be ready to move to a bigger sleep space before you’re ready to stop room-sharing. That’s ok! But you don’t want to delay getting them out of the bassinet when they’re ready to roll around! Baby’s and toddlers are very wiggly sleepers! As they become more mobile they’ll be getting themselves into some very interesting sleep positions! This is ok! Let them get comfortable.

So what signs should I be looking for? It’s simple:

1️⃣ If your baby is rolling either way.

2️⃣ If your baby is over 4 months of age.

...then they’re ready for a larger sleep space!!

If you’re not quite ready to stop room-sharing yet, and don’t have room for a full size crib in your room, I suggest just having a pack n play or a mini crib in your bedroom instead!

You’ll be so surprised how quickly they learn to roll around all over the place during the night and just LOVE the freedom!

On a personal note….

I moved my daughter Lily to a crib at about 3.5 months after we got her out of the swaddle! With my second daughter Isobel, we moved her into a mini crib, which is the size of a pack n play, at around 11 weeks old, as this was when she started rolling and got her out of the swaddle.
